Avant Garden 2008

AVANT GARDEN has been successfully implemented for a second year.

Approximately 40 artists attended the briefing workshops in June, and 24 artists submitted Expressions of Interest. Of these, 15 artists proceeded to fabrication stage.

For the first time three professional artists were invited to jooin those selected from the communit to create 17 art works for the project.

Indigenous artist christian Bumbarra Thompson, Head of Sculpture and Spatial Practice at the University of Melbourne’s Victorian college of Art, Dr, Marie Sierra and University of Southern Queensland PhD student, Mona Rider, all worked along side the emerging artists.

As well as the art in the gardens, the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery exhibitied design concepts and models in the ACT’s Gallery M space.The completed artworks were installed in Toowoomba’s public parks and gardens in time for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 26th – 30th September.
